Some folks like to buy a quality rifle over the cheapest bag of parts that you can throw together.
LOL. Cool down hot rod. I don't think he meant anything personal. There probably isn't a person on this side of the site that hasn't bought a rifle "off the shelf".

As for me..with my budget, any complete rifle I bought would probably have the same parts. At least if I put it together I will have a better understanding on how to replace it later. Plus it will allow me to have another project to do with my 13 year old. He is absolutely jazzed about the prospect of putting a gun together.

I think I'm technically a dickbag 30 times over. Have built anything custom yet.

Now that is the best reason I have heard yet. Making memories Dad.

youre going to need lower receiver block for assembly to make life easier in assembling the lower. you can do it all on a wooden block, but trust me on this.

find a good rollpin bunch set. take your time putting it together.

believe it or not, buying junk parts is quite noticeable once you begin to upgrade or shoot this rifle. ditch the a2 grip and cheap buttstock, and switch over to the MOE parts kit if anything.

I completely disagree on NEEDING a block, yes it does make life easier but I have built 5 without it. A good punch set is vital

I hope to God I never find a bag with anything like that in it.

I guess I'm the weirdo, I don't use punches hardly at all. Most pins I press in using a pair of channel lock pliers with the jaws taped up to prevent scratching the receiver.

Thanks for the advice guys! I have a kit on the way. I have a buddy who has put dozens of guns together in all kinds of configurations and he is going to walk my son and I through each step in his shop using his tools. Really looking forward to this!

                        lol.

ya. i missed the BCG. in my first post.

the trigger that comes in most kits is pretty bad.
as far as i know, the next option up is a RockRiver at about $85
or a super fancy mombo jombo that run over $100 and normally about $200.

i've never tried a fancy one, but the difference between the basic and
the RR are worth considering if you plan on shooting it alot.

                        good luck bro!

I'm sure that a lot of "operators" find these kits to be basic but I am just trying to get my foot in the door. You would think more people would be encouraging but whatever.

i didn't mean to be condescending at all.
i only finished my first build a little while back.

it was so scary to pull the trigger the first time!

it's great that you have some help.
it just takes a little bit of help, you'll be fine!
