    T/C 50 cal side lock???s

I've shot in lines but not side locks.
Can yall school me on powder and bullets? Can you use pellets and sabots in them like in lines? How about the amount of perpelent and bullet weight?
What about this site , good for hunting? Can you mount a scope?

    1)You can not use pellets.
2)I'm using 120 grains of powder with a 385 grain Hornady Great Plains.
3)IMO yes that is a good hunting sight.
4)Yes you can mount a scope on them. If it's not tapped for one take it to a gun smith and have it done.

      1. I see no reason not to use pellets. Twist rate will determine if you're rifle will shoot sabots well.
      2. Also determined on twist rate and what charge your rifle likes.
      3. I really like that sight.
      4. You can mount a scope on your caplock, if you're a girl under the age of 12.

What you shoot depends on what the twist is in your barrel...1 in 48....1 in 20....1 in 60...mini balls, sabots, round balls,.....all shoot better with the correct twist.I think yours is 1 in 48....

Never tried pellets in my Hawken, been told that no. 11 caps won't reliably ignite them, but that's not true in my Austin & Halleck inline. That said, the cap on a sidelock is much farther from the powder than on an inline.

The peep is fine but the aperture is smaller than I would want for a hunting gun, although it's fine in bright light. Mine wears a peep also but it's not that small.

Try TC bullets ( pre lubed ) and use TC Bore Butter in your bore after cleaning. You can thank me later.

No scope man, no way. Defeats the intent.

Most TC Sidelocks were 1 in 48 twist, they will do a creditable job with maxiballs (or similar bullets) but I've never seen one that will adequately handle sabots (though they may exist).

I would use loose powder, the pellets may work but you won't get reliable ignition with the #11 caps used on the TC sidelock.

That peep sight will work but I prefer a larger aperture with a post and bead front sight for hunting.

Like Drycreek, I like the TC Bore Butter lube.

What Drycreek said was true, I have never shot my sidekicks with pellets to compact for #11 caps to ignite. I use the Power belt bullets and they shoot really well. Either pointed or hollow point Power belts bullets.

The aperture hole is very small for low light conditions. 1-48" shoots bullets and round balls very well. 1-60" will shoot round balls only and 1-32" or 1-28" shoot sabots and bullets well. Hope this helps you.

Very fun and dirty to shoot.

I never thought about powerbelts in my Hawken, but they are all I use in my inlines. Good bullets !

I cast my own balls and Lee REAL bullets. I usually buy powder from a local store in Abilene.
