I'm not even going to discuss the fact that the mating surfaces have to be machined to the exact same dimensions (radius) as the action, and they rarely are. I had a rain that I removed from an action that you could see two scuff marks where it touched the action in front and one in back, so it was riding the action like a tripod. If you bed the base, you fix that, but I can't figure out how to bed a two piece base.
