    Scope advice

I had apr build me a rifle earlier this year. It doesn't have a heavy barrel just a no frills hunting rifle. It has a 6-20x50mm scope on it right now. I will be upgrading to a much higher quality glass soon. To help my budget I'm looking at a 3-9 or 4-12 magnification with 40-42mm objective. I won't shoot past 500. Just wondering if that will still be enough magnification and with a smaller objective it won't hurt the brightness too much. Just wanted yall input. It might help to know what glass yall are running on yours too. Thanks

Take a look at this. I am no expert but have done a lot of research...especially in the last week. These guys made the glass for the Zeiss Conquest. Do some google searches for more info.

I ordered one. Should have it in my hands in a few days.

Thanks guys. I'm going with a leupold. Just was wondering about what magnification is sufficient and the size of the objective

Of your choices, I would go with the 4-12 over the 3-9. 40mm objective is more than adequate in my opinion for what you described. Leupold has $100 rebates on the VX-3 models so you might consider the VX-3 4.5-14x40 if you are set on the Leupold.

I love my Meopta's! And Cameraland NY's price is pretty much unbeatable. Of course, with Leupold's discount they are running now a VX-3 is "close" to the same price and also tough to beat.

              I would go 4.5-14 x 40 with 30mm tube

Meopta is a pretty good scope from what i've been told and have read about. I know they make the glass for the Aimpoint line

If you are set on a ~40mm objective the highest magnification you will be able to effectively use early/late is 10X.

Do you have a link showing where Meopta made the glass in the Zeiss Conquest scopes?

What do you want to spend. Do you want to dial for elevation or or use a bdc style reticle? Is scope weight a big factor for you or not? Lots of variables here.

Without knowing your exact wants I'd say go with the swarovski z3 4-12×50. The 50mm will help with light late and early, it's still one of the lightest scopes on the market and it IS the best glass under 1k by far. You can either buy it with the ballistic turret if you like to dial or a ballistic reticle if you perfer that. Cameralandny will make you a hell of a deal on one if you call them. @$850ish

After that I'd just go with the zeiss conquest hd 3-15x42 @$600 or 2-10 @$500ish

And after that the leupold vx3.@$450 4.4-14×40 or 3-10×400 @$400

If you want higher quality glass, go with something other than Leupold.

At the very least, I'd be looking at a Zeiss Conquest and go up from there.
