What are some pros and cons of hinged and solid base bipods?

I like hinged for unlevel shooting positions

Non hinged = You have to shoot on a level surface or your gun will be canted which can screw you up at longer ranges. But you have a steadier rest.

Hinged = You have some cant so you can shoot on unlevel ground. But its not as steady of a rest as the non hinged part. But they do make locks you install or by on one already to lock them in place.

I have two both hinged. 6-9 for bench, 9-13 for prone, 12-25 or 13.5-27 for sitted shooting. I have the 9-13 and 13.5-27.

Good information guys. I'm thinking the hinged is the better option for me.

If you are using for the field, I would recommend sitting to shoot. Prone is a more stable position, but conditions have to be right. Often grass and natural curves in the terrain will make prone position not an option. It also limits your FOV, but you look cooler prone...

Both add weight to your gun and if you are hiking or packing in the extra weight adds up

                This right here^^^^.

I will tell you from experience, you will need to practice with it whether laying or sitting. If you plan to hunt with it, you will need to practice with all the adjustments. A good practice is to jog 40 yds with the gun, get set up as quick as you can and take a shot. Try to replicate a true hunting situation. JMO
