My Grandson is doing a project for school and is in need of some cases and bullets from a bygone era...his project involves weapons that explorers would have carried in the 1860's...specifically cartridge guns...I'm looking for a couple cases for a 44-40, a 45-70, or any cartridge you historians might be able to enlighten me on...remember, it has to be a cartridge gun from circa 1860...the rifles were Purdey-Moore rifles, and the pistols were Colt. Thanks. I will gladly buy spent cases and pay for shipping...

When you say 1860's what kind of span are you looking at? The 44-40 and 45-70 were both introduced in 1873. The Henry lever action was introduced in 1860 in 44 henry rim fire. the 45-120 sharps in 1878 or so.
Most civil war era cartridges were paper. If you are talking about 1870's "cowboy" stuff I may have a source. Where are you located?
