I haven't shot one but did put it to the shoulder at the range recently. It felt really good but really heavy, it did have a very heavy 8xx30 power Burris tactical scope on it.
This gun was chambered in 6.5 Creed with hand loads the man was shooting clay pigeons at 600 yards....
If you're okay with a short action round and its velocity limitations and like that unique stock then it's a great buy for the coin, IMO.

I went looking for one in 6.5 but wasn't able to put my hands on one yet. I want to handle one a little before getting one otherwise they are available on gun broker. I did find the Ruger Precision rifle in 6.5 but man that joker is fairly heavy.

Also the 6.5 should have a little less recoil than the .308 and with my bum shoulder every little bit counts.
Today I ordered 6.5 dies, brass and projectiles and tomorrow I'll be calling Boyd's to order a stock.
The factory stock is crap so you might as well start thinking about adding another $150 to the price, Boyd's is the only aftermarket stock that I've found.
The trigger is adjustable down to 3.5 lbs and that's it. If you want it lighter you will have to do some work on the sear or buy a Timney.
They call the Ruger American an entry level rifle but it is very accurate.
