Scope Recommendation

Hey I need your help. I have a friend who asked me for a scope recommendation. I shoot trad archery 99 % of the time and have not bought optics in 20 years. I know there are very knowledgeable people here.

What would you recommend.

The budget is around a thousand, perhaps a bit more.

Variable, at least 9X at the high end, 12 might be better.

Clearity and light gathering the most important features.

Do you have any suggestions, and also the best place to purchase.
