Looking at getting a 7mm-08 for the kids to shoot. Remington 700 youth are too expensive. So Savage Axis youth or Ruger American Compact are the 2 I have it narrowed down to. Anyone have a Ruger? I've talked to a few people that have the axis youth. I'd like to hear some first hand info about the Ruger.

I have that exact gun.
Ruger American Compact 7mm08
I'm a huge fan of the trigger on this gun!
I sighted it in with Hornady 120gr Reduced Recoil loads and it likes them a lot.
I haven't tried to get any distance with it because all of the shots that my kiddo will take with it will be inside 75 yards. But I was stacking rounds up at 50 yards when I sighted it in.
The bolt is a little sticky but not a deal breaker by any means.
And it does still have a decent amount of pop even with the managed loads, or at least more than I was expecting having never shot managed loads before. But I think it's bearable even for the kiddo.
My 7 yo daughter hasn't shot it yet... So we'll see what she thinks about it soon enough.
All in all, I think it's a great gunLast edited by Mac...; 11-10-2015, 06:29 AM.
