So you can take a larger contour barrel and and flute it down to be the same weight as a smaller contour barrel, and be slightly stiffer on the fluted one. But the fluted barrel will be less stiff than it originally was unfluted.

Now if you want to cool your barrel as best as possible, JP makes these "thermal dissipators" aka heat sinks you can wrap around your barrels. Only problem i see is that they dont provide or suggest the use of a thermal interface material to fill the voids (im talking air pockets caused by surface roughness, which greatly decrease heat transfer) between it and the barrel.

But they're ugly and expensive.
