    50 Action Express?

Anyone have any experience with the 50 Action Express, Magnum Research Owners in this caliber?

I've never owned anything from MR/DE, but had a buddy who really likes them and has a "few" different models. Been reading a little about comparisons to 44, 454, etc.

Would really like to see some comments on actual experience from the GS.

I fired one once. Muzzle flip was horrible!(what would you expect) I would develop a flinch real quick if I shot one very often.

I went through the Desert Eagle phase in college many moons ago. :-) I bought a .44 and .50AE from a friend. In short, they are fun guns but I would stick with the .44. There is no appreciable gain (OK, others bust out your ballistics/ft. pounds charts :-) )in most hunting or target scenarios between the .44 and .50. If you are going to collect them etc. then by all means get both; however, if just getting one I would opt for the .44. If you want to tell buddies at the range, "Yup, its the fifty", the get the half bore. I don't recall the recoil being significantly different between the two but I haven't shot either in years.

No need to get 2 guns for the 44 & 50, just do like I did and purchase one complete gun and then just the barrel and mags of the other caliber.
The 50AE is pure awesomeness, I don't care what anyone sais!!
A heavier bullet than the 44 and flying at a faster speed, you do the math.

The Desert Eagles are heavy guns so recoil is not as bad as most people think.
In fact, the .50 I have pictured above with the muzzle brake has less felt recoil than the 44mag without muzzle brake...go figure.

The 50AE Eagle was on my bucketlist so I had to eventually purchase.
            No "ragrets" what so ever

They are a fun novelty. Too expensive to shoot on a regular basis and one of those guns you bust out when you have friends that have never shot one. I find that the brass ejects right back into my my face which causes me to pull the trigger and then play "dodge the giant piece of hot brass." Never hunted with one, but have been impressed with their accuracy. I also like the built in rail for optics.

Reminds me of a happening at a gun range 20 odd years ago. At the time I shot a LOT of handgun metallic silhouettes, with a super Blackhawk in 44, and various Contender calibers. I also practiced a lot, like 1000 rounds a month or more. I was at the range practicing offhand shooting. This guy comes and sets up next to me and pulls out a DE 44 Mag. Going on and on about how fast he can shoot it and such. I told him $20 says I can get 6 shots on that paper plate faster than you can. A few minutes later I had an extra $20 for beer money that night.....

                    (Disclaimer- his was not braked.)

Really not as bad as you would expect on recoil. Very fun to shoot! Ammo is expensive, you can reload for it but it doesn't make it that much cheaper.

With newly purchased Starline 50ae brass I'm at about $1.10 per round.
Price only goes down once I start reusing the brass over and over.
