I found it's easier to pull one side down either the top or bottom and get one half out.. then worry about the other half. Another is to use the handle side of a pair of channel locks to help push the ring down. This takes 2 people but also works.

I gave up on mine. Brought it to a smith who basically laughed at me and said you got small hands. He popped it on in two seconds and sent me on my way free of charge.

Guess my hands are big then. I can pop them off bare handed.

I popped mine off and put one side on but couldn't get the other side. I have the worst luck with guns. I bought the TBH STI 10MM and got one grip off ad the other the set screw came off with the grip. Ended up taking it to the gun smith to remove the set screw out of the back of the wooden grip and put the VX grips on.

I don't think it's called a set screw but can't remember what's it called. It's the piece that the screw screws into that's in the handle. Regardless what it's called I should have removed 4 screws and put the two new grips on but no it's never that easy. If I put a ceiling fan up in my house I would probably have to replace the roof. I learned a long time just to pay the professionals. Heck if I mow my grass I can't just do that, usually end up having to put gas in the mower. God forbid if my weed eater runs out of string, I'd have to buy a new weed eater before I did that.

Handguard removal tool is about $10. Worth it if you are going to keep the original handguard instead of putting on a free float handguard.

You can sit down and put the jaw of the plies under your knee and do it by yourself.
