I had an old Ithaca Model 66 single shot 12 gauge that I was given when I was 11. Dang thing would knock you down. My stepfather didn't believe me until he shot it one time when we were squirrel hunting. It spun him completely around.

I got a Rem 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge for Christmas that year.

I bought a Win Mdl 70 Black Shadow in 7 Rem Mag then had it reamed to 7 STW.
With a scope it weighed about 8 lbs.
Fist time Creedmore shot it it knocked his hat off his head.
He turned around and looked at me and said "Why ?"
It's now in a laminate stock from Boyd's and wearing a muzzle break.
Recoil is about like a 243 now

        Wow! That's a long tom!

I've got a 99 in .300 Savage with a brass butt plate but it doesn't bother me at all.
My .25-06 with a decelerator kicks harder.
Brass butt plate? 99's are ok..my 99F is just very light....

Buddy of mine has a long tom in 10 gauge like that. Talk about a bruiser!! I made the mistake of shooting at a goose with it one day that was directly overhead while we were standing up. I think I am still lopsided from that, 15 years later!
