    30-06 ammunition

I've shot core-lockts out of my Winchester model 70 extreme. (I know they were never known for accuracy but I've always had good luck with regards to dropping animals with them)

However, picked up a new box and the appearance of manufacturing looks sloppy (lead tips look like a 3rd graders used chewing gum). Groups are now all over the place. A buddy shot it with the same result - so it's time to change.

I recently started reloading - what's a good bullet choice in the 150 grain variety? This will be for west Texas white tails at 100-200 yards.

Try the Hornady 150gr spire point, flat base. Has been very consistent in worked-up loads in .308, .30-06, and .300 WinMag

Man sucks to hear. I have used the rem core lokts 150 grain in my model 700 30-06 for years and shot well. I like the fusions tho. May have to switch. Haven't gotten all my reloading stuff together yet.

Thanks - any recommendations for a powder with these bullets to start working up loads?

          Core locked or interlocked.

I'm working up 150 gr loads in my 22" bbl M700 '06 right now, using Sierra flat-base Pro Hunters and IMR4350 (a faster powder like 4895 or RL15 would prolly work better with a 150gr bullet, but I have a lot of 4350). Hornady 150gr Interlock Spire Points are a good, economical bullet as well, but the secant ogive doesn't work in my longish-throated gun. My go-to load in the gun, however, is a 165gr Hornady SST over H4350 - it's very accurate.

For a factory load, try the Winchester 150 grain power points. Those shoot 1/2 groups at 100 yards outta my Model 70.

Thanks I'll pick up a box to test while I'm working up hand loads

Never had a problem out of corlockts in many many years. I've seen them outperform many other much more expensive rounds. I bet you just got a bad box.
