Well, I'll give one a try. I have S3G and SSA's right now. I think I'll stick with Geissele and give the SD-C a try for this build. This one is going in my 6.8.
I did get the JoeBob's ad, and that is what got me thinking of trying the CMC. But after reading the responses here and looking back at the SD-C (2 stage), vice the CMC in that ad (1 stage), I think I'll go with the SD-C. The trick with Geissele (at least my last two experiences) was finding one in stock somewhere. Looks like Midway and Brownells has them in stock right now though.
I think Gissele makes a better trigger. The CMC isn't a bad trigger by any means but I do believe Bill has CMC beat.
Geissele mainly makes 2 stage triggers (I think they only have 2 models that are single stage...) But they're pretty nice. Like I've said before, I love the SD-E it's a flat face and 2 stage though but I'm still pretty fast with it and the 2 stage is nice when taking a longer/ precision shot.
That CMC 3.5# that I have has been nice as well. I hadn't had much trigger time with a single stage prior to this so running it for a while has been nice to get some experience behind it. The only complaint I have is that the reset seems a little weak.
The price difference is pretty substantial between the two but if money is of no concern, go with the Geissele. I doubt most folks here shoot enough to fully appreciate just how great the Geissele triggers are so for $100 less that CMC looks better and better.
Short version:
If you have the cash, get Geissele, if you want a great trigger and want to save $100, the CMC should do just fine.
Thanks for the reply. Normally, money is a consideration, but not always the ultimate deciding factor. If the triggers were extremely similar, and one was $100 cheaper, I might be tempted to go in that direction. But in comparison, and after reading these responses, i think the SD-C or SD-E is what I want for this current build.
The best part of this one is that time is not a factor. I have plenty of other weapons to shoot, and I've learned a few important lessons on my last two builds, so this AR is a "take my time, buy all high quality parts from the start" type of deal. 3 paydays worth of "set aside gun money" should have this one complete, and I'm on payday #2. I just purchased the hand guard, gas block, and lower parts kit on Friday. I will probably buy the stock this week, as well as sending out the hand guard to get painted stealth grey to match the stock and grip. Next payday finishes out the build with the trigger and muzzle brake.
