    Browning Maxus vs. Silver Hunter

I'm going to be purchasing a new shotgun next week, and I wanted to get some opinions on these two. In that price range, they are the best looking guns to me. I can't get over the nice wood stock and silver receiver. I know the Silver Hunter is a little older model, but some people swear by them. The Maxus Hunter has great reviews as well. My main question: is it worth the extra $300 for the Maxus? I'll be getting the 3" version because it'll pretty much strictly be a dove/quail gun. Thanks!

I'm in the same situation with the same question. Are you going 20 ga or 12? That is my next big question. I have a few of each but not a nice auto in either. I tend to gravitate towards the 20's in the safe more than the 12's. Would be using it for dove, quail, and skeet shoots. I know most people shoot 12's for skeet, but they ain't that hard to kill........

I'm gonna go with the 12. It is really all I've ever shot, so that's what I'm comfortable with. I'm bet the answer to the question is "can't go wrong with either gun", but I'm sure there are some people out there that have some experience with both of them.

I have the Silver in Mossy Oak Duck Blind in 3 1/2". I use it for everything, and love it. It will shoot anything you feed it. Never had a jam yet.

I bought a used Silver Hunter from Gander earlier this year and redid the stock which was no easy task. The finish is like clear concrete! I've enjoyed it in the few hundred rounds I've shot it at clays. It's simple to take apart and clean and points well for me.

I have a Browning Maxus Stalker with 26" barrel and LOVE it. I use it dove hunting, duck hunting and turkey hunting. Will handle 2 3/4" to 3 1/2" shells without any issues. From the lightest of loads to the heaviest it'll cycle them. My only complaint with the Maxus is that I didn't get the camo one. I will never own another shotgun.

As an old geezer reading this makes me chuckle and think about all the times through the years that I've said the same thing ----about guns, women, cars etc.

Only shotgun I'll own for bird hunting and field use will be the browning maxis. May pickup a 725 for skeet though. Plus... I'm a cop so I'm a poor man. Hahaha

I love my maxus. It has made me a browning Fanboy for life.

Thanks for the responses so far! Doesn't sound like anything negative against either one

I have a silver and have used it for 3 years with zero issues. It's a great shotgun. I don't believe in the need for 3 1/2" shells ever so I don't care that it only shoots 3", usually I run 2 3/4 anyways.

It's been run pretty hard some days and never had an issue with it of any kind. Haven't shot the maxus but it handles nice and if it were in my price range when I got my silver I may have considered it. But then again I'm a browning fan

I looked at both today and the biggest difference I can see is finish. The Maxus hunter has the high gloss very nice wood, vs the Silver Hunter has decent wood but no where near the Maxus. Now if that is worth a couple houndred dollars, that is up to you. But personally I after handling lots of different auto loaders I now have thrown the Berretta A400 in the mix.

As long as you don't get a browning gold you will be fine!

I know this is not the answer to the question you asked, but I feel compelled to give some friendly advice. From a guy that admittedly has a problem and owns over 20 shotguns, please consider a Benelli...even if its used.

My sons and I shoot a lot, and the only shotguns we own that have never jammed...ever...after thousands and thousands of rounds are the Benelli's.

Browning does not make a bad firearm so if your mind is set, both the Maxxus and the Silver Hunter are great shotguns. But the third empty hull from your buddy's Benelli will hit the ground/water before you fire the second round...just saying.
