thinking about grouse

I'm thinking about a NM grouse hunt. Are there any in the Cloudcroft/Ruidoso area or do I have to go north? Not much interweb info on this. Not looking for guides, just public land hunting. Any of yall done this?

I have thought about this for years. I see them all the time in southern Colorado. A guy I have hunted with keeps saying he is going public land NM, but never does.
