    Shotgun buying question

I am wanting to purchase a shotgun for my Fiance this coming dove/duck season. I'm wanting to surprise her with it so I can't really see if it fits her ahead of time. Any suggestions on size when purchasing a shotgun for a female?? I been looking into the Stoeger M2000 and M3000

I know there are some 24" barrel models out there. That's where I would start looking. Depending on her size, she might be fine with a 26" as well.

She's 5' 8" so she's has some length to her arms. Thanks for the input SaltyAg

The bigger concern is not the barrel length but the buttstock and length of pull or LOP. Usually it is much shorter for a woman and they require a stock be cutoff or use a youth model.

I'd make sure she could handle one of yours first before I bought.

Thanks Smart. The LOP is what I was concerned about. I didn't even think about cutting off the stock to fit her. That helps!

If you have to get it cut, it is better to have a wood stock. That's why several synthetics have a youth stock version or an actual stock available to buy.

Hard to beat the 870 Remington Express youth in 20 ga. It is very reliable and light. Has a 21" barrel that is quick pointing. A great value as well for what you get.

too light of a gun can cause even dove loads to cause uncomfortable kick unless a good pad is added, which btw can adjust the lop.

Any problems filling out the 4473? Do you answer the question about buying it for someone else or just say it's for you?

870 youth or the weatherby would be great choices also. My mom shoot a youth 870 and my wife a weatherby sa-08

No....its only illegal if you are doing it knowingly for somebody that can't fill out a Form 4473. Folks gifts guns all the time.
