Whats the best way to go about doing one of these from a stripped lower. ive read through the entire thread and from what i gather its

    1. buy lower
    2. get lower engraved
    3. form 1

while waiting for the stamp to come back can i build out the lower as a pistol? or should i just be collecting parts and not actually assemble anything. Thanks for the help in advance.

      This is fine.

Sure. But do not put a rifle buffer tube or stock on it.

Building the lower is fine. If I was in your flip flops, I'd be careful about owning a short barrel without a pistol-looking lower. You can collect the rest of the upper parts no problem.

This was a frankenbuild from mostly parts I had sitting around so not sure on costs.

Radical Firearms 10.5" complete upper. Bought on Black Friday sale so it was a heck of a deal. Around $375?

New frontier lower $50 (pre-first Obama AR craze)
        Stag arms lpk. Maybe <$50?
Magpul but stock: no idea found it in a drawer
Eotech: $420, will end up switching it to something else probably
        Tax stamp: $200
Engraving: don't want to admit it but do not use Bear Creek Firearms in Keller for engraving. They are great at other gunsmith things but way over charge and did a garbage job imo

Sub $600 if you take out the stamp and optics. Built it as a budget rifle for the truck to kill pigs and yotes (if I'm lucky enough to). I don't need a $1k+ duty ready rifle

So how do you figure out your overall length if you can't put the stock on until you get the stamp. I've read on other forums you just right in a smaller overall length because you can can go bigger just not smaller?? Sorry if these a stupid questions. I'm new to the SBR world.

It's ok to be new. We all were at some point. I don't mean this rudely, but you should be searching and reading ten times as much as you're posting. All of this ground has been covered, time and time again.

This is a good guide. Type in the word length on this page and you will find lots of info: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...e-an-nfa-item/

29.5 is a fairly standard overall leignth with 10.5 barel. Add or subtract from that with longer or shorter barel. For example one I submitted today was 26.5 with 7.5" barel. Hope that helps.

If you have a 16" AR just measure the OAL with the stock fully extended and subtract the difference in barrel length.

How well does the radical upper shoot?

Love it for the money and their customer service is excellent.

I have another lower that came in just deciding on what caliber to build on it.
