Spikes upper - "Dry Lube / Teflon Coating on inside" ???

I just bought a Spikes upper and lower for a new build. The lower looks great. The upper looks unfinished on the inside, so I called JoeBobOutfitters and asked them. I just got an email from an employee there who tells me that the unfinished look is actually not unfinished. It supposedly
"has a dry lube / teflon coating on the inside. It was anodizing (sic), and an coating added after the fact. That finish is normal for Spike's uppers."
I have two other Spikes uppers from a few years back. Neither have any type of additional inside coating, and the insides were as black as the outsides when I bought them.

Anyone have any info on this, one way or another?

    All the best,
    Glenn

Well it doesn't look like bare metal and a quick google search didn't turn up much.
Not much help but I've been eyeballing these for a build.

I checked Google too before asking and didn't come up with any answers. Initiatially, it looked like the black coating had a bit of overspray on a bare metal inside and it had me wondering how that finish was applied because it definitely looked like spray-on at that point. Looking some more, it very well may be a grayish coating on the inside and the light overspray I'm seeing is on the black.
      All the best,

Looks just like the teflon coated magazines I have.

Spikes wrote to me today to confirm it is a coating, not bare metal.
