    M&P Shield 9mm sight problems

I just bought my wife a M&P shield 9mm and it is shooting way low at 10 yards and even lower at 15 as makes sense. I had to stand less than 3 feet away from the target to be able to line up the sights and it hit close to my aiming point. at 10 yards the bottom of the front sight had to be at the top of the rear sight to get even remotely close. what can I do to fix this. the rear sight is not adjustable. should I take the gun back to the store or take it to a gunsmith? Any help is appreciated.

How many other people have shot it? Were their resluts the same?

Just my wife and I have shot it. I can aim so that I hit the target where I want to. but at any distance it becomes hard to see your target enough to be accurate.

Shoot it off a rest with the sights lined up properly (top of front sight level with top of back sight) and see how it groups, just to rule out operator error.

I need to check the ammo. they were a box we got free with purchase of the gun. I do know they were fmj. I will look at it.

would a local gun range have a rest? I did not think about that. Not saying it isn't operator error but I have consistently taken squirrels out of the top of a 50' pecan tree with my judge loaded in .45 long colt. but I will not say operator error isn't the cause but I am confident enough in my skills to think it probably wasn't me but maybe

Mine is 4" low at 30'. Get out to 25 yards and it's pretty close. I'm going to get a set of adjustable sights for mine.

                      1. Don't jerk the trigger
                      2. Make sure you aren't doing #1
                      3. If the problem persists, file the front sight down.

If it is a set of 3 dot sights, how is filing the front sight going to help?

I understand if it's just a plain set of sights.

I wasn't trying to disparage your shooting ability. You probably shoot pistols better than I do. But the first thing I would do would be to shoot it off of a rest, just to find out if the issue was with the gun or me. If you don't have access to a range with a bench and all, just shoot it off of a san**** or a sack of corn on your tailgate or something like that. Any good rest along with a smooth press of the trigger would do.

I heart shot a pig right at 50 yards with mine. I aimed upper shoulder though. Realistically it's not a long range gun. Up close and personal is what self defense usually boils down to. Target acquisition and sight alignment should be quick, natural and something you are confident in. If you need to get adjustable sights to do get that confidence the money is worth it. Get adjustable "night" sights and you are twice as well off.
