Hey all, just a quick question regarding factory loads. I know that loading your own rounds is ideal, but for the time being I don't have that option. I do however have the the ability of buying some different factory loads to see what shoots best. I am working with a Weatherby Vanguard. Anyone on the GS have a favored factory round for this model? Thanks for the help!

Modeler trophy grade shoot good groups but they are way lower than advertise and they change up primers on you causing you to have to re sight in depending on what you get from box to box.

I agree with Steve. I've had great luck through the years with Federal. The blue box soft point is essentially the old speer hot core (fusion is similar) which typically shoots well. Federal offers numerous premium bullets the only one of which didn't work for me is their new copper solid which replaced the Barnes bullet.
I'd stick to the 150 and 160's for the rem mag with my preference being the 160 nos accubond.
If you're interested in a solid, I'd go straight to the original Barnes. They're now loading their own ammo under the Vortex name. I shot some 140's in my 280 and the were great, .5 at 100 and 1.5 at 300.

For deer/hogs I always have had great results with normal old Remington green box/corlokts. I had bad results with Winchester super x, the bullets wouldn't stay together even on small does.

All great info folks. I appreciate the input. I wish I had more time to play around but I am currently deployed and will have about 2 weeks between return date and my wife's first mule deer hunt to figure this out. She hit a 24" x 24" steel plate at 500yrds with the 175 federal soft point last time we went out. It just seemed like it took 10 minutes to get there. The groups at 100 are actually really good, however I feel like 175gr bullets give me a terrible BC. She won't be shooting at anything past 200yrds I'm sure, but I want the best factory load/bullet for that rifle.

Everybody is taking shots in the dark with what works in "their" rifle. Without knowing the exact distance to the lands on your rifle, it's hard to tell you what works best for yours. Just try different factory loads till you find one that works well for you. For me it was federal Premium 175 gr. acubonds. I'll buy your brass if you go with Federal.

My 7 Mag (Ruger tang safety model) shot the Federal 160-gr Partition loads great and I could duplicate it with handloads. Then accuracy fell off due to throat erosion and I changed barrels. Now I've not found a factory load because I handload and it eats the 150-gr Ballistic tips just as well.
