    Prostaff vs Monarch

I have a monarch on my lr-308 really like it. Bought me a new 5.56 and looking for optics and want to know what the difference is in the two models other than lower budget scope, there will be no hunting involved just shooting paper but would like to get out to about 500-600 yards.
    Thanks for your input.

The monarch has slightly better glass/coatings. Light transmission is suposed to be 95% for the prostaff5 and 98% for the monarch. Other than that it will just be the different power ranges. The prostaff5 have a 5x power range and I think all the monarch models are a 4x range. I have one prostaff5 and I am very happy with the scope. My only complaint is that the turret caps are plastic and not aluminum.

I would go with a prostaff or a vortex. For the money, vortex is probably the best bet

Take a look at Nikon's P223. I have the 4-12X40 model and it is nice. I zeroed at 100 yrds and turned the turrets to 200 and it was dead on at 200 yrds. Haven't had an opportunity to shoot further yet. It's very clear and can be found in the $200 to $240 range.

          I don't think the p223 will be a good choice for a 308....

clarity, and light gathering, you could always aplit the difference and go with a buckmaster

600 yards i a long way, you planning on holding over? dialing, bdc? this may make a big difference on scope selection atleasst it would for me

I never suggested putting this scope on a 308. The OP was inquiring about a scope for a 5.56
