    Remington 597 22mag won't reset trigger

I was shooting my Remington 597 and the round would eject and load a fresh round but the trigger would not reset. You could manually work the slide and it would shoot but not on it's own.
Anyone had this problem. I have only shot this gun once since I bought it over a year ago from a tbher.
Not sure if it's the ammo that doesn't have enough kick to fully work the slide or if it's just a common problem that can be fixed.

I would suggest a deep cleaning. Rim fire ammo is dirty.

This gun has been shot very little, only 2 new time I have shot it. Looked brand new when I got it.

They discontinued they 597 magnums for these types of problems.

I will say that while that may be true I never had any issues like this out of mine. The only problem I ran into was the factory magazine was junk. I probably cleaned it once and shot it about 2000 times.

OP even though the gun has been shot little doesn't mean it doesn't need cleaning. There is no telling how much factory grease was put on the rifle when it left the factory. And seeing that the gun is probably 10 years or so old, it is possible it's a little gunked up.

Try some different ammo as well. Have had some rimfires for example some love winchester but don't like federal. Idk why data on the sides of the boxes are close to the same it's just the way it is. Like said above give it a good cleaning, lubricate it and try some different ammo if you haven't already

I'll give it all a try.

Yep it's sad that most all mag semi auto pistols or rifles seem to end up getting discontinued. Not sure why there are any great 22lr guns but not flawless 22mags.

I have the same gun and haven't had any issues. I for one don't like having to buy different types of ammo to make my gun work.

If I shoot good ammo and it works I would expect the same from not so good ammo.

I often will bring friends to the range and quite honestly they don't care about ammo, they just want to shot something. So I buy monarch brand, but if I target shot I will buy something better.

At the end of the day I don't want it to work sometimes and not others because of ammo.
