I got it off Ebay but the trick was, I hadn't realized I had $200 in my paypal account. Scope sold for $680 but it was more like $480 with that extra $200. Even still, that is seriously cheap for a $1000 scope.

Yep. That's a great deal too!! Right after I bought my scope, a guy I had written on Craigslist wrote me back about a zeiss 4.5-14x50 for $430.

I would personally go with a used zeiss conquest 4.5-14 or bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16. The leupold vx3 4.5-14 has a super small field of view and I hate it for hunting.

zeiss conquest 8.4 to 29.9 at 100 yards
          leupold vx3 7.4 to 19.9 at 100 yards
bushnell elite 6.5 to 41.1 at 100 yard*

bushnell have a higher max power so that's why its field of view is smaller at 16 power

I have both the zeiss and the leupold in the 4.5-14x50.. i don't ever plan on buying a bushnell.. that said the fov has never been a selling point for me on a variable scope.. especially on a midrange like a 4.5-14.. if you need to see more you zoom out. I actually just picked up two more leupy 4.5-14x50's for some guns that mostly set but need decent glass.

Older 1" tubes and they'll be just fine.

The fov of the 8.5-25x50 can be a hindrance at times. . But in that case you can step into the vx6 line which is expensive yet very cool. 4-24 is what dreams are made of.. 7-42 will be nice in the future when they become available for a man in my budget. Lol. You imagine 42x on a rifle scope?

              Anybody wanna lend me 2k?

Lol well I was not paying for the name nessarily just the quality and longevity. My "hizouse" doesn't have that much "cheese" laying around. When I told the wife how much I spent she put me in the dog house lol! But we all know I got a smoking deal so I'm ok with it. I sleep soundly with my new set up lying next to me. : )

Plus I absolutely love the hd5 with the 5x magnification. Even at low power I feel like it's lightyears ahead of my nikon. I still love my nikon, but the zeiss sure is nice.

I think I narrowed down the problem here. Lol.. don't do that. Don't go and tell on yourself. If you get caught... don't lie... beg for forgiveness. Seriously if I die someone's going to have to tell my wife what guns are really worth. Lol.

If you go vortex contact arrowsmith on here.

If you go with anything else don't forget to look at swfa.com before you buy elsewhere. They're almost always the cheapest.

I'd say Nikon in that price range. Althoufh there's literally dozens of makers that will suite your needs at less than your budget
