A 7mm08. I have never shot this cal and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it for me. Is it a good shooting round for young ladies? She has been shooting a 243 but wants something a little bigger for hogs.
Guys?
That's my go to gun for deer or hogs, I love it. Not any more kick in my opinion than a 243 and it will put them down, I've killed 4 different animals with mine over the past 2 years and not a single one of them has taken a step, with one of them being a boar that weighed in at 220 pounds.
Im impressed your daughter saved money for a........rifle! Must be good parenting
He is doin it right.... Instead of cleanin his gun when the boys come around she will hand him her gun and ask him to clean it for her as she walks out the door
My GF shoots this in an H&R Handi. She's killed several pigs and a nice doe. Has never complained about recoil. Drops them right where they stand. (or stood...lol) I bought a Savage Axis Youth Model, put it in a Boyd's Stock...it shoots GREAT too!

I dont think they kick very much, but Im not a little girl either. One thing is for sure, 7mm 08 will be good enough to shoot the rest of her life, you cant really outgrow it.
Recoil is about the same as 243....maybe a little less, depends on the weight of the rifle she gets. My wife has the Savage Ladyhunter in 243 and the recoil is a little more than my 708. Good choice of caliber.

Bought a savage youth model in that caliber for my wife right after deer season. Came with the accu-trigger and a Nikon scope. So far it has only killed the ram in my avatar but on paper it is a very good shooting gun and has a nice cushy recoil pad which helps alot, recoil isnt bad at all, they also make reduced recoil roounds for it. I was in the same boat as you but I wanted the ability to shoot bigger loads in factory ammo so I went with the 7mm08. We are shooting winchester 140gr balstics and the damage it did to that ram has me convinced.
