I have a M&P 15 that I would like to get set up for my grandsons to hunt with. What scope and mounts do I need for this gun? Please see pictures below. Thanks.

I have shot many S&W M&P 15's and I think you made a great choice. I would look at getting 5 and 10 round mags for your AR too.
The guy's have given you some excellent info on a scope and mount for your AR. I absolutely agree the a Nikon P-223 3-9 BDC 600 would be an excellent choice. It is a tough scope, good glass and very clear. The BDC reticle when used with Spot On will help them make accurate longrange shots too. In the interest of fair play, I do some PR/Shooting Event's for Nikon so I get to see a lot of different rifle's and optic's. The P-Series 2 Piece AR Mount will also work great with Nikon's P-223 Scope. The scope mount is not QD so I would remove the rear iron sight. You can certainly add a Quick Detach mount but that will probably run you as much as the optic.
I hope my suggestion's help and if you have any regarding Spot On drop me a note.

I started with a Bushnell TRS-25 Hi-Rise red dot on my M&P 15. It was fine, but I just wanted a little more range and accuracy. Plus, I've shot with scopes my entire life. I put a Bushnell AR Optics 3-9 on it. $179, on sale at Walmart for $129. The raised rail is from Academy, as are the rings, which are medium-height Leupolds, also from Academy. Put it all together with Loctite. It's an excellent scope, and I love the side parallax adjustment. The Nikon P-223 is probably better quality overall, although I understand the parallax is set at 100 yds. The AR Optics has long eye relief: 4-5 inches.
I chose the AR Optics because it was $75 cheaper and because I could adjust the parallax/focus. Out here on my place, I get some shots at 10 yards, and other shots at 150 yards, so I needed that flexibility.
I like the power range, too. The 3X puts me on target almost as fast as a red dot, and if I need to nail a fox at 150 yards, the 9X comes in handy.
Anyway, I'm completely happy. Unless I expect to get into close-range battlefield combat, I can't see going back to the red dot.
