Best way to get value of gun collection?

In the near future, I may have to determine the value of the few guns (12 or so) I own. What is the best way to do this?

Blue Book of Gun Values or see what the internet auction sites are bringing would be my guess.

You could take them to a reputable gun store that purchases used guns, and request an estimate for your guns. In Houston, there is a large gun store called Collectors Firearms that will give you an estimate, which many people need in order to value guns for an estate sale, insurance, etc... I believe they charge a small fee b/c the actually go over each gun, and give you a written estimate.

Go to Gunbroker and check the going rate for each of the guns you have. Then determine to go higher or lower depending on condition, etc and how fast you want them to sell.

You can also post pictures and get opinions from folks on here and also on 24hourcampfire forums.

Go to a gun store and tell them you want to trade them in. Then double the amount that they offer. That should put you in the ballpark of what they are worth.

Don't just get the going rate--often inflated but maybe to your advantage. If you want the real deal, do a search for completed auctions and look at the prices of guns that actually sold--this is what a willing buyer pays a willing seller, and is a more accurate figure than someone listing a rifle at 50% above its actual value hoping to catch a sucker.

Kinda depends on why ur needing them appraised. If ur going for insurance. What there worth plus a $100 or 200 for the troubles of finding another.

Divorce. I may have to pay for them(or at least half the value of them) again...

Blue Book of Guns will give you a good estimate and you'll be able to reference it as an impartial, public domain source. Of course one can still argue about the condition but everything in a divorce is an argument.

Since it's for a divorce, you might want to skip M16's step of multiplying by 2. Best of luck to you.

Agreed. Take them to a gun store and go with their offer.

Sell or give them to a buddy. Since they aren't yours, they aren't hers either. Then get them back when everything is done.

This. Sell them all to a GOOD friend. Get them back after everything is over.

^^ That's what my buddy did with me when he was going through a divorce. He even "gave" me the safe and helped me move it into my house.
