Favorite reloading kit for a beginner

    Hey guys,
Going to break down and do my own reloading (instead of relying on friends). What is y'alls thoughts on the best reloading kit for a beginner? I don't want to spend anymore than is necessary - but also don't want something 'cheap'.
    Thanks

Redding, RCBS, Hornady, Lee all make good starter kits.

I started out with a Lee cast press some years back, about a year ago, I upgraded to a Redding Big Boss 2, and I'm thrilled with it. I am fully and completely sold on Redding quality.

Agreed. Look on Craigslist or eBay. I love my rcbs set up.

what calibers do you plan to load? are you loading for accuracy, or just to produce cheaper ammo?

I'd love it if I can get both better accuracy and cheaper. Right now, I'll load for the 257 roberts, and the 223.

I bought a LEE classic turret press a couple of years ago and it works great. I don't load thousands of rounds at a time but for casual reloading it does what I want it ti do.

IMO, buy a quality reloading kit , it will last you 50+ yrs.

it's been my experience buying cheaper kits, trying to save $100 will only cost you money in the long run

as you become more experienced and competent, you will end up selling the cheaper kit and upgrading to more precise equipment

the RCBS Rockchucker kit is hard to beat.

Try looking at the dillion 550 kit from Brian Enos website if you plan on doing any volume shooting at all.

I would say it depends on your goal? If it's accuracy then spend the money now because you don't want your press to be another variable to contend with.. volume then get a progressive. . I like the lee turret for a starter. . You can get all your dies and powder throw set and turn out a lot of ammo in a hurry or just run it as a single stage.. also for $13 buy more turrets and you won't have to mess with resetting the dies every time.. $200 and a set of dies and you've got near everything

After listening to some of the folks on here and some additional research - I'm leaning towards the RCBS Rock Chucker. Buy once - cry once.

Don't worry. Reloading won't save you any money

this is the reason I've been waiting to get into it. Told my FIL I was gonna buy a set and he laughed when I told him it was to get cheaper ammo... his words were "you'd think that, but just wait"
