    new rig issues.

got my conquest hd5 last night and picked up my talley light-weights today to put the stuff on the M70 super grade. Everything went fine with the install and bore sighting until I went to get the windage set. Before I could get everything set the scope ran out of windage MOA. I AM NOT NEW TO THIS. I have used this same Bushnell collet style bore sighting tool on all my previous rigs. This is however my first set Talley's and my first Zeiss and the first time I have ever had this issue.

    So what say you all?

Has to be an alignment issue between bases.

Could be a number of things. Did you check the alignment of the bases, lap in the rings, or have you actually looked through the bore of the rifle or fired the rifle to check your bore sight to see if its right?

I have several sets of Talley rings and have never needed more than a few clicks of wind age to sight in.

          In for the answer.

Spoke to TJ @ Talley and he told me to check the alignment of the tapped mounting holes on the receiver. He also said to just shoot it and see where it prints before doing anything like sending the rings back. TJ recommended not lapping the light weights as it simply is not needed in that model. I will check it manually against the bore sighting tool as Lungbustr advised as well.

                  So what was the problem?

Either the rings are bad or the tapped holes in the receiver are off location. If I go back to the Leupold 1 PC I can zero optical center back out and pull the coarse windage in using the base. Just thought I would try the Talleys but I never had a problem with the Leupold system on any rifle. I have them on the Sendero, my VLS and also two previous 338 and 300 Win's. Oh well.

                      Interesting.
I lapped mine and was glad I did... definitely not round out of the box.
Curious what about that particular model would make lapping unnecessary.
Also curious to see what your issue was.

I would think the holes in the receiver are bad..

TJ said that the manufacturing tolerance on the one piece light weights was tight enough it wasn't necessary. I don't know if I'm all in on that one.

I have had 2 rifles lose zero due to those Leupold course wind age screws coming loose. Replaced all Leupold with Talley with great results

I have gone from Talley to one piece ken farrell steel bases epoxy bedded, with steel ken farrell rings. I shouldn't have a problem ever, the only other thing to do better would be go with spuhr one piece I guess.
