    TC Encore Recoil Question

For you guys that own or have shot a TC Encore rifle, how would you rate the recoil impulse when compared to a similar weight and caliber bolt action? I was thinking I read somewhere that the design of the gun, and the configuration of the rear grip as the point the recoil transfers to the stock and then shoulder creates a different recoil impulse. Just trying to determine if there is any truth to it. Thanks in advance for your input.

      Bolt vs Encore - I can't tell.

But the differences in recoil between models is different. All depends on the stock / forearm you have.

If you have the lightweight composite stocks, whether "ProHunter" or not, it's going to kick more. I've known of many people that fill them with weight (shot) and silicone to make them heavier / absorb more recoil.

The factory wood stocks aren't much better as far as recoil reduction, and there isn't much you can do to them.

Aftermarket wood laminate thumbhole stocks are the ones I've liked best, and are the ones I have on two of my 4 encores. I have one that is a pistol setup, so it's not applicable to this discussion, and the other is my son's and has a Choate Machine M-4 style stock on it. It's heavier too, so it also helps to reduce the recoil.

I've shot Encore's for quite a while, along with other firearms of similar caliber / weight. If there is a difference in recoil between the Encore and a bolt action, I haven't noticed it. However, if you want to know the difference between an Encore with one stock or another... The perceived recoil is definitely different to me.

      All the best,
      Glenn

Ive got a 30.06 TC Encore Pro Hunter, which has a synthetic stock with energy burners, a big honkin' Limbsaver butt pad, and a heavier barrel, and it doesn't kick nearly as much as the .270 Remington pump with a muzzle brake on it. By far the best gun Ive ever shot for recoil management.

Both Encores I've had have been BAD. I had one with the thumbhole stock and one with the standard walnut stock. I had .308, 30-06, and 45-70 barrels, and I can say that was the worst-recoiling rifle I have ever had.

Ditto on the after market wood stocks. I had a boyd on mine with a bull barrel and in 30.06 it was manageable just like any heavy rifle I've ever shot is.

I have the prohunter with the thumb hole stock synthetic stock. It has all the bells and whistles they engineered into it. That said I only have .243 and .22-250 barrels for it so recoil is a non issue. That said the .243 seems to kick less for me than my synthetic stocked model 700 in the same caliber.

I guess I am a little surprised at the comments about the recoil on the TC. My wife has been shooting an Encore .270 for about 5 years and has never complained about the recoil - even after having shoulder surgery. In fact her rifle is listed in the classifieds because she has moved up to a 30-06.

I have a pro hunter barreled in 30.06 have a laminate and synthetic stock. The recoil is tolerable with both. It is accurate but with the synthetic that rifle bucks. With the limb saver design and but pad it is not painful or anything it just jumps...have to concentrate to get back on or stay on target especially with live game

My pro hunter 308 kicked my butt. I preferred my savage precision carbine so I sold the TC. Very nice gun, just not for me

My wife has a pro hunter in .280. She loves it. Never complained about recoil...I've killed plenty of critters with it myself and it doesn't kick at all.

Well I will let people know since I ordered 308 barrel and laminite stock. If it's bad. I will just deal with it and put a pad on it lol.

The bull barrels help. My 14 year old daughter will shot but not to many in 270. Seems like my m77 is about the same. I like the set up.

My 50 cal Prohunter kicks pretty hard with 150gr of powder. Mostly when benchresting.
