For you guys that own or have shot a TC Encore rifle, how would you rate the recoil impulse when compared to a similar weight and caliber bolt action? I was thinking I read somewhere that the design of the gun, and the configuration of the rear grip as the point the recoil transfers to the stock and then shoulder creates a different recoil impulse. Just trying to determine if there is any truth to it. Thanks in advance for your input.

Bolt vs Encore - I can't tell.
But the differences in recoil between models is different. All depends on the stock / forearm you have.
If you have the lightweight composite stocks, whether "ProHunter" or not, it's going to kick more. I've known of many people that fill them with weight (shot) and silicone to make them heavier / absorb more recoil.
The factory wood stocks aren't much better as far as recoil reduction, and there isn't much you can do to them.
Aftermarket wood laminate thumbhole stocks are the ones I've liked best, and are the ones I have on two of my 4 encores. I have one that is a pistol setup, so it's not applicable to this discussion, and the other is my son's and has a Choate Machine M-4 style stock on it. It's heavier too, so it also helps to reduce the recoil.
I've shot Encore's for quite a while, along with other firearms of similar caliber / weight. If there is a difference in recoil between the Encore and a bolt action, I haven't noticed it. However, if you want to know the difference between an Encore with one stock or another... The perceived recoil is definitely different to me.
All the best,

I have the prohunter with the thumb hole stock synthetic stock. It has all the bells and whistles they engineered into it. That said I only have .243 and .22-250 barrels for it so recoil is a non issue. That said the .243 seems to kick less for me than my synthetic stocked model 700 in the same caliber.

I guess I am a little surprised at the comments about the recoil on the TC. My wife has been shooting an Encore .270 for about 5 years and has never complained about the recoil - even after having shoulder surgery. In fact her rifle is listed in the classifieds because she has moved up to a 30-06.

I have a pro hunter barreled in 30.06 have a laminate and synthetic stock. The recoil is tolerable with both. It is accurate but with the synthetic that rifle bucks. With the limb saver design and but pad it is not painful or anything it just jumps...have to concentrate to get back on or stay on target especially with live game
