Have you shot one? It's a hot round, an not as accurate as it should be. The new semi auto 17 hmr by savage is available for sale on in 2 days. From what I've seen, and read, it's a tack driver.

Heard it does pretty good out of the bmag with a stock change. It's to flimsy of a forearm. Throw it in a boyds with a simply glass bedding job and it'll shoot ground squirrel heads clean off

Have you looked in to any models in .204 Ruger? Fun little ground squirrel gun.

really debating the boyds stock here soon. Probably about to see about getting mine threaded once I get my suppressor wait started. Should be do-able at full length, or I'll have them take an inch off.

I got very excited about the 17 WSM and bought one of the Savage B-mag's but it shot like crap. I had a nice Redfield Scope on it. When it finally got settled down. It would "Consistently" String every shot in to a vertical line. Every shot would walk up the page... Barrel the size of a pencil. Crooked cheezy plastic stock. Hard to close bolt. Weird *** rifle. I feel sure the heavy barrel will help with accuracy and the Boyds will help a lot of things..
I just dont think the round is nearly what the marketing makes it out to be. But it does send a bullet down range very fast.....

I sent my Bmag back to Savage because it was shooting like crap. They are replacing it with a new gun. The new guns are suppose to have a 1:8 twist and shoot better. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will group well when I receive the new one.

I've had mine for about a year now. The bolt is a little hard to unlock sometimes, but not always. Groups have always been about and inch or so, no string groups or anything. Figure a better stock would help out a lot. Can't really complain about it yet as I won't be sharp shooting prairie dogs or anything. Would probably still change out barrel if some options ever come out.

The bolt knob swap is supposed to help give leverage to make it cycle smoother. That's why I'll never buy something introductory. Let em fix the kinks or find solutions then I'll buy in.

The 17 Bmag is an odd rifle for sure and Savage might have hurt themselves with this one.
The bolt recocks when you close it, thus being hard to close. It's reverse of all other normal bolt actions. The stock is way too flimsy and never should have been put on any rifle for that matter. The cartridge is a good med range 17 caliber but it's not a deer gun. Shells are limited to one mfg. right now. The newer 1-8" twist barrel should help the accuracy but there's several factors that could help accuracy also.
The 17 HMR is much more accurate from the factory with no modifications and ammo is cheaper. Choices!! Choices!!

I'm having a hard time finding ammo for my hmr still. Got a cz .17 hmr but it's worthless bringing it to a prarie dog town with no ammo. Where are ya'll buying yours?
