Had a new idea... But then checked C.O.A.L.

Just got a new (to me) barrel for my Contender - 7TCU. Started looking at the cases / dies / etc... and got to wondering...

Why didn't anyone ever try to chamber this in an AR? It uses the same cases (.223), so the bolt wouldn't have to be changed. I have really liked the 7mm's. I just might try to get a barrel chambered in this. Why hasn't this been done before?

Oh yeah. C.O.A.L. Dang. I thought I was onto something for a second there.

    All the best,
    Glenn

There have been iterations of the 7-300 blackout done in the past. I love the 7tcu. Had a 10" bull barrel that was a tack driver. Shot half a dozen deer with 140 ballistic tips out of it. Shot ihmsa with it for several years.

Thanks Bowyer, I know what OAL means...I was asking what it was. How long is the loaded round?

The 7TCU case is formed by either expanding and fireforming, or simply fireforming 223 cases. No cutting or trimming required other than fine tuning. I used to do both ways. If I didn't anneal the cases, I had 1 or 2 out of 25 split when expanding. The final cartridge can be up to 1/2" longer than a standard 223 depending on bullet selection.
