1 what is it and how does it affect value ?(Win. Model 12)

Cutts compensator was popular back in the day. It was an adjustable choke mechanism installed on a lot of guns. It kills the value by at least $200 on a model 12.

That's Sad that value is so affected by Cutts comp.

It is big, bulky and compared to today's screw-in chokes, lots of folks think it is ugly. Same thing with the old poly-choke.

Anything & everything not from the factory pre-64 is going to kill the value...my guess is even more than what M16 says, but it strictly depends on the condition of the gun.

If it's a shooter, then $200 is accurate...if the gun is minty, then it will hurt it a lot more.

Worst part is that you very well could have special ordered (although doubtful) any length bbl with a cuts, & rib (solid or vent) with the model 12 from Winchester. Unfortunately, they lost records from a fire & without the original invoice or factory letter, it is impossible to prove.

If you got the gun I think you did...don't sweat it, just shoot it & be happy. It was a fair deal.

Weaver also had a version. It was very similar to the cuts except it had around holes in stead of slits and screw in chokes.
