    Benelli Disappointment

I just recently moved, and had to pull my guns out of my safe and keep them under a bed (not the ideal environment) for a short period of time (2 weeks). Upon retrieving my guns, I came to find that all 3 of my benelli barrels (two M2 barrels, 1 Nova) had quite a bit of surface rust on them, and a tiny bit of pitting on one.

Now normally I wouldn't be too upset since this was my blunder, except that there wasn't a spot on any of my other rifles, even the blued ones, or my $300 savage.

I'm a huge benelli fan, but for $450 a barrel for the M2, I'd expect something better than cheap paint on the barrels that doesn't protect crap. I dropped them off at Polydyn in Houston to get Cerakoted to avoid this possibility in the future.

For those of you in the houston area that are interested, I'll update this thread on how Polydyn performs on the coating job.

Two friends with them have had nothing but tickey tack issues with them. Stock recoil pads popping off, finish issues. Not what I would expect from such an expensive gun.

I've only owned the early M1 H&K imports but have transferred M2's...doesn't make any sense?? Never heard of this issue before.

Are the s/n's close to one another?? Looks like you can get originals for less on ebay. FYI...only pay attn. to the ones in green for comparison.

Here are the closed auctions for reference:

I hunted the salt marsh for several years and my HK stamped SBE doesn't have a spec of rust on them...

You should expect it from an expensive gun. Rip offs paying for the name. I'm no shotgun expert by any means. I shoot a new haven mossburg my pops gave me but my friend is a huge duck hunter and has switched from them for that reason.

Can't go wrong with beretta! I've got a benelli and love it, but beretta is where it's at! Both my 391s stay under my bed....no rust! Lol

                  x 2 lol..

OP did you wipe them down before you put them into the case? Did you duck hunt with ti? Was it damp or raining outside when you put them up? Was it during dove season because sweat, beer water etc will all do it if you just shove it in a case.

They weren't in a case, just straight onto the wood under the bed (I know, not a great place). I think it's because it was quite cold and there wasn't much airflow down there. I thought I wiped them all down with a silicone impregnated cloth, but who knows? Also, I hadn't used them in about 2 weeks.

Also, who drinks water during dove season? There's only so much room in my little foldy chair.

I just consider it nature's way of giving my gun a free camo paint job. Looks like junk but never misses a beat.

Crazy issue you're having with the barrels. I've never had any problem with any of my bird guns. Do you put any lube or similar on it after you've cleaned it. In 24 years in Houston I've never encountered any rust issues on my guns.
