    Help please

Have my new Weatherby Vanguard S2 in .308, and wanted to give it a good cleaning before heading to the range. Nothing special. Using brass jags and patches. Patches were tight but I wouldn't think overly tight. Down towards the end of the barrel before the crown i see brass colored marks. Same color as the end of the Tipton rod where the jag attaches. Does this look like it did harm to my barrel? Before I get to po'd I wanted to see what yall think. Using a gun vice and a bore guide as well. Maybe the patches were too tight. Always a possibility I guess.

i'm not a gunsmith, but i don't think that you can damage your barrel with brass and cotton.
    you'll be o.k.

I figured if it was hard enough or had enough force to leave marks on the metal then, it could have a negative affect... Just wanting to check and see what yall think

No damage to the barrell but your rod and Jag lost some skin,

Looks just like a little copper fouling, I'd clean it out with a little Butchs. It'll be fine.

well this above my pay grade, but i think that the first time you fire a round thru it, those particles will be gone.

It was this part of the rod losing "skin"

I would clean the brass out before you put any copper over it. The brass being slightly hard could cause some fouling issues and will make cleaning harder next time.

Thanks for the advice. Is the metal at the end of the cleaning rod brass? Doesn't look like it to me for some reason. Might have to try that's Butches (sp?) you mentioned earlier.

Brass is a lot softer than steel.
