    HS Precision stock tapping question

So I changed directions on what I had intended to start with and went back to my original plan for a rugged,semi-factory Remington 700 .308 that I can use as an all around.

Found and bout a lightly used VS with a 24" barrel. The previous owner had an Hs stock with the aluminum bedding all the way through the foregrip Installed on it. He had also taken the time to have it bedded by a gunsmith so I figured it will be a good solid platform.

    Here's the question(s)
I'm looking Into adding an atlas bipod to it BUT it has the single sling stud up front and not the duals. After a little looking I have found where guys have gone in and tapped a second hole, counter reamed and installed a t-nut inside the stock then seated it with epoxy and installed the rail for the bipod. Sounds simple enough.

Does anyone has experience doing an HS stock and drilling through the aluminum?

Second. Since these stocks can suffer from loose sling studs, (which this one does) should I just blue lock tight the original stud or go ahead and drill/counter bore it as well and be totally done with it?

Sorry if it's longwinded. Just wanted to be thorough.

the full length aluminum bedding block does not run the entire length of the stock, but just the action length .. see pic

the HS stock is made up of woven aramid fibers and composites

you need to use a mill and carefully route out enough of the barrel channel to use this grip nut which is counter sunk flush, then epoxied in (silver nut on far left )

hard to see from the pics , barrel channel milled with counter sunk nuts

Thanks for clearing that up Blake. Reason I thought it went full length was when I took the front stud out, you can see a little silver under the black/grey composite.

That's pretty much the same insert and process I was picturing also so glad to know I was on the right track.

the silver is the woven fiber to aid in stability

Yessir after you said that I figured that must have been what I was seeing.
For the time being im just gonna add a little blue lock tite to the sling stud until I get ready to pony up forward the bipod and then tackle the tapping.

order this part and you don't have to add another stud

So will one mounting point be solid enough for a bipod and a sling?

people have been using Harris bipods with slings for years, (see below) shouldn't be a problem with the picatinny rail mount adaptor

Right on. I'll run it and see what happens
