    Shilen vs Brux barrel

Any inputs on the two. I'm looking at the Brux to go with Stiller Predator action but came across the Shilen Barrels. Didn't know anything about them. Notice Shilen was in Ennis which could be convenient for me to go look at them.

Shilen used to be top notch but from what I hear now their not as good of quality as they use to be.

I don't know much about brux

I've got rifles with bartlein and krieger. They shoot lights out. Had a shilen 6mm once and it was no more accurate than my factory rifles. Could of been anything on the shilen but, I'm running 100% on the krieger and bartlein.

Well. Guess my 1st decision was the right choice. I'm building my 1st and hopefully last long range all around gun from steel plate shooting to elk hunting. I've got the Stiller Predator Action and 26" Brux Barrel #5 fluted with Muzzlebrake with a Jewell Trigger shooting 6.5x284 Lapua pushing 140gr Berger VLD as of right now in my mind. Not sure on Stock yet. Looking at vertical grip A-3 Sporter right now. Gonna top it with a G7 Nightforce scope for sure.
Got the LR bug when I went with buddy 3 weeks ago that specializes in LR shooting, and I ended up shooting 2 does at 625yd and 650yds. He has a way of getting me addicted to new sports

Shilen makes great benchrest barrels. There hunting weight barrels leave some to be desired

Lots of good barrel makers out there. I own rifles with Shilen and Lilja barrels. Both are top notch, my preference is Lilja.

I researched this a while back and my custom gun maker doesn't like Shillen because they have different grades in their barrels. They have top tier barrels and hunting barrels. My smith said this tells him they can't consistently produce a near perfect barrel, maybe 3 of 10 will be near perfect and the rest go into the second tier. He felt Kreiger, Bartlein, Brux were all a cut above the Shillen. I can't vouch for this personally, just the answer I got to the same question. Availability will be your next hurdle.

Brux are cut rifling while Shilen are button pulled. Some believe the cut barrels are better. I have heard shooters say the Brux was not as accurate as other cut barrels but some swear by them. Either will out shoot most shooter.

                      Another for Lilja!

You can't go wrong with Brux. I have 3 of them. Brux has at least one world record to their credit.

Brux all the way. Here is a 5 shot group out of a AR 6.5 creed with a 22" Brux

Is there any reason that's the only two choices you have? There are several fantastic barrel manufacturers out there. My preferred barrel makers are Krieger and Bartlein. Put me in the crowd that prefers cut rifling over button pulled. And I'm a huge fan of 5R type rifling.

If I were replacing a factory rifle barrel I would consider Shilen but otherwise it's going to be one of the others for me.

I have a Brux. I have had several other brands & it is the most accurate of them all.
