Best Bench Rest for under $200

I'm looking to buy a new front rest, not to exceed $200. I'm thinking about this Sinclair rest

but I'm open to other ideas. This is for use at my personal range and not for competition.

    Any thoughts?

You can bet that if it says Sinclair on it, it is good stuff. I have shot off of the Caldwell Rock BR rest and it was pretty good. I like the front post that allows you to push the stock back until this stop for repeat alignment.

Had the Caldwell and was not impressed.

Joe Cowan teaches a HS Machinist course and they build a very good rest with all the proceeds going to further the program.
I used one in bench rest competition for a while. Sorry I don't remember pricing but as I recall it was under $200

                http://www.bullets.com/products/Rest...luminum/BE1005

the original Bald Eagle rests were made in America, PA to be exact and were awesome

Bill G sold the company 5-6 yrs ago and the new rests are made in China

they're OK, just not super nice quality and precision craftsmanship like 20 years ago

for $165 the aforementioned rest in link is what I recommended and will work

rest has the micro windage and elevation adjustments , I prefer the slingshot model over the triangle version

just buy a good rest 2.5" bag for rest , and a Protecktor or similar rear bag ... fill with heavy sand and your done

invest in a pelican case to transport and store rest & bag

Thanks Blake. I'll check that one out more. I do already have a Protecktor 13B--chromite filled

I'm interested in seeing how my shooting is improved on this setup as compared to my old less than desirable setup.

Wow...while not surprised, I can't believe Bill would not at least have the fortitude to produce the rest built to the same specs while outsourcing?? The product was not that complicated with basic casting and machining.

Did he outsource all the rear bags too??

Mine is around 15-20 years old & like brand new...pretty sad.

Bill sold the company around 2008 and has no input on production

no clue where bags are made

new owners outsourced to Taiwan (not China , my bad above) for cheaper labor which is why price is $165 and the original American made rests were around $350

only thing different I would add to the above rest is a Sinclair rear speed screw
