(fox down) How do animals react to strobes???

Last night my wife told me the neighbor's dogs were going nuts (about 500 yards away) about midnight. I got my AR and went down our dirt road to see anything was going on - coyote, whatever. Right in front of me, about 20 yards off, a BIG fox started across the road and froze in the beam of my 275 lumen tactical light. He took a few steps, then stopped, then turned around, then froze again, etc. but didn't take his eyes off the light. The .223 55 gr. V-max transferred him to a parallel universe. So our feral cats are safe once again.

But I was wondering.... this light, like most of them, has a "strobe" option in the switch. It strobes at about 7-8 flashes per second. So I'm curious, how do animals react to the strobe? Do they freeze the same way, or less, or more? I've never had the opportunity to try it, just curious.

I was just thinkin of this exact same question (just saw a gorgeous red fox on the side of the rd, not dead). Very interred as well.

I was told it will make a yote stop dead in its tracks long enough to get a shot off. Haven't tried it but will e after deer season.

Don't know how a strobe affects critters

What I do know is that feral cats do more damage than that fox. I would thin the cats out too.

The other night there were some does hanging around the house and i shined with my light on high to check them out, they didn't even move. Out of curiousity i hit them with the strobe function and they took off running around looking confused but not standing still. I do not know if this would be the case everytime but i would go with high beam over strobe.

IMHO, many times it will depend on whether an animal has shot under a lamp previously..A fox that has been shot at a couple of times and missed will get very lamp shy very quick regardless of the exact type of light used..
