    6.8 gurus

I know there is a plethora of information on the 6.8, but I would like what info you guys/gals here have on the caliber. Im looking for info in the AR platform. I am leaning heavy towards RockRiver.. Im looking for stuff like what twist do I need? I think I read somewhere that the 1:11 was best. What length barrel. Isnt the 6.8 best suited with a barrel under 20"?

    Ready set GO!!!

I'm interested as well most of the forums I have read say you get the best performance out of the 18" as far as first hand experience can't help ya there

Can I slap a 6.8 upper on my AR15 lower and commence to shooting or do I need to swap out the BCG or buffer spring? Subscribed.

Change the bolt to a 6.8 same Carrier. you can get a few rounds into 5.56 Pmags before they expand and will not fit into receiver .

OP, i built (1 so no where close to Guru) but spent hours reading. I went 16" barrel simply due to length vs benefit.
1-11 twist rate. Wilson barrel -3 reasons. they had stainless fluted in stock great price and i could get the bolt with the barrel.

Check out Bison Armory for complete uppers.....68forums for all info you need.
IMO its the perfect round, i have 4, not one over 16" in barrel lenght.
6.8 bolt, 6.8 barrel, and 6.8 specific magazines (NOT MAGPUL THOUGH AS THEY ARE FOR THE LWRC), then u can use all standard AR-15 parts

I went back and forth with the Ambush 6.8 and Rock River X series 6.8 and went with the ambush. Wayyyyyyy lighter, better trigger, and upgraded charging handle. Love it so far.

Spend some time on 68forums.com ... best gun site on the web IMO.

A 16" barrel is plenty for the 6.8. I have 3, a 16, a 12.5, and a Savage Axis with a 20" ARP barrel. The 16 and 20 have taken three of my deer this year.

I am building one right now. Ar15performance is a good source for barrels and bolts. Rest of the parts I got between midway usa and palmetto.

Not a guru by any means and have mixed results with my 6.8.

I have a 12.5" Noveske polygonal barrel and it performs outstanding. I've heard great things about ARP barrels and Bison barrels.

SPC II chamber is preferred and 1-11 or so twist rate is the most common. Whether it's the best is debatable.

Companies like Noveske and Black Hole Weaponry use polygonal rifling and at least Noveske uses 1-12 twist rate and they do very well.

The main different parts you will need would be a different bolt and magazines.

1:11 to 1:12 is generally what is used. The 20" Savage barrels are 1:10 to stabilize 130's and 140's. Bison has a 1:7 designed primarily for subs.

Brands to look for in barrels are (and in alphabetical order ... how about that?) ARP, Bison, Black Hole, Noveske, Wilson Combat. If you want a complete rifle or built upper you're going to need to do a bit of digging (or ask the right questions) to sort through what are bad, good, better, best.

I would try to get a AR15performance barrel and their super bolt. I went with a 16" barrel for portability since I stalk with mine.

68forums is a good place to get info.

                              Start here - http://www.ar15performance.com/online___store

Do a lot of clicking and reading. Tons of good info about barrel material and bullet selection and what-not.

You can buy a complete upper from PSA - when they have them in stock- for under $600.00- I'd keep an eye out there.

Aside from that you are looking at-
(rough prices going off memory of average Joe stuff- not prime rib gun parts- but should make moa and make you smile)

Stripped upper & parts kit- $75-110

Barrel- ARP's can be had for ~ $250

Handguard- UTG SLIM Pro- (the made in USA version)- $100

                              Gas Block- ~$20 http://hamlundtactical.com/catalog/i...oducts_id=3078

Mid length gas tube (to match the ARP barrel) - ~$15 http://hamlundtactical.com/catalog/i...oducts_id=2925
                              BCG- $150

Charging handle- from $15 on up. http://hamlundtactical.com/catalog/i...Path=92_93_105

                              Now you'll need a muzzle device- $60 http://www.maddogweapons.com/store/p...2C_Fluted.html
                              or $8 for an http://hamlundtactical.com/catalog/i...ducts_id=16840

So you are still at $500-600 for a throw together with somewhat decent parts...for a complete upper.

I've used the vendors listed above with favorable results.
