    Slug Gun Accuracy

    Got a Rem 870 12 Ga Set-Up with:

    1) Rifled Barrel with Sights
    2) Remington Saddle Scope Mount
    3) Nikon Shotgun Scope
    4) Rem Pistol Grip type synthetic stock

I familiarized with it using some Reduced Remington Rifle slug and inexpensive Herter's Rifle slugs. Recoil wasn't that bad and about like my 30-06. I wasn't concerned with accuracy as "rifled Slugs" aren't really meant for Rifled Barrels... But what kind of accuracy should I be getting from some Sabot slugs meant for Rifled Barrels ?

IMO, lots of variables influence accuracy

my suggestion, buy several 5 rd. boxes of slugs and do your own accuracy testing

select which sabot slug performs best in your shotgun

shotgun A may shoot the Brenneke slugs into 2" at 50 yds, and shotgun B may group 12"

I have seen some guns that did not like the saddle mounts. With shotguns it is a lot of testing with what will work the best with your gun. I personally would look for a hastings barrel and I would shoot lightfield slugs. But, that is what I use on my 1100 and it is dead on at 100 yards with no scope.

Last time i used slugs, i just used my regular bird hunting shotgun and the cheapest remington slugs i could find and killed an 8 point at 50 yards and a doe at 75 using only the bead of the gun. We ran into some other guys out there that we using the whole sabot slug deal and said they couldnt hit a thing

          I've seen a scope on an 870 hit 2" at 150 yards.

            I had a Mossberg 500 with a Leupold 2-7 that shot Brenneke KO's into a 2" 3 shot group at 100.

It did have the best trigger Ive ever felt on a pump shotgun though.

To the OP: Cajun Blake is spot on! . Get a few different loads to try. Then sight in with the one that groups the best. Then step back to 100 and see how they do.
