    Nosler hunting bullets

I loaded some nosler 90gr hunting bullets for my 243. I shot a deer with one thanksgiving day and I was not impressed with the damage. The shot was placed right behind the shoulder where I aimed and the deer did not bleed which is understandable from a 90 grain 243 bullet but it should have stopped that deer in his tracks. In the past I have shot deer with just plain hornady spire points and the bullet explodes in the ribcage turning lungs to jello, but that wasnt the case with this bullet and I almost lost the deer. The bullet entered behind the shoulder with no exit. Has anyone else had this with nosler? This was is the first batch I have loaded with that bullet and will probably be my last.

    which bullet?

Its really hard to beat a Nosler Partition in a .243. We shoot the 100gr. Honestly I have never had one leave the feeder area when shot with that bullet.

I know it was a stupid thing to do but we shot one last year with the 6 br and an 80 grain berger match bullet during the final youth season. Shot was placed behind the shoulder, bounced off the opposit shoulder and then lodged in the spine. That deer dropped in his tracks.

Ballistic tips that small in weight are more of a varmint bullet.
I think the nosler book even states this. I absolutely hate ballistic tips on big game of any kind.

That's the deal with cup and core bullets. Most of the time they work just fine, but sometimes they hit bone and do weird things. Switch to the 90 Partition or 90 Accubond and that bullet will fly through anything you shoot, every time.

Shot a pig a couple of weeks ago with 90 grain Nosler BT out of my .243. A little far back behind the shoulder and 140 pound pig ran about 60 yards, blood everywhere. I did put one behind the ear after finding him because he was in the process of dying.

I don't like the ballistic tip bullets either, but the Nosler partition are awesome!

Ballistic Tips, especially in 6mm, aren't good big game bullets. As everybody else said, try a Partition or an AccuBond. I've killed countless deer with a 100gr Partition out of my .240 Wby. It's a good bit more powerful than the .243, but same bullet. I'm gonna load some 90gr AccuBonds next though. I've had great performance from them in other guns.

Then there's shot placement. I'm personally not a fan of the lung shot with a rifle. If you want an animal to drop in its tracks, hit some major bone rather than just ribs. Front of the shoulder is my shot of choice. You'll hit spine and major arteries. Deer will drop dead and not even flinch. You'll mess up a little bit of meat, but it's the least desirable meat on the animal - lots of gristle and silver skin and nerves everywhere anyway. No big loss. No deer lost.

                            Stop using varmint bullets.

Nosler Partition or Accubond is a much better choice.

I agree! Never had a problem with the Nosler Partition or the Accubond
