    Help Identify this action

Probably 10 years ago my dad got into assembling bolt action rifles. He never finished this one. Is it worth putting a lot of effort into? Accuracy?

Barrel just has Spain 308 and some illegible proof marks.

      Santa Barbara action

Parker Hale (Birmingham, Eng.) used them when building custom rifles back in the day

stock is likely a Fajen , inletting was close, but now always 100% perfect

remove barreled action from stock, look on left rear tang for markings .. "Sta. Barbara Ind.- Spain"

Commercial mauser 98. I AGREE WITH CAJUNBLAKE. COULD BE PARKER-HALE OR INTERARMS. I AM A MAUSER FAN, AND I AM CURRENTLY BUILDING A 35 WHELEN ON A CZECH VZ-24 ACTION. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT THING!

Stock is a Fajen. Not so sure on the action. Did someone make a knock off? Everything stamped and engraved is very shallow. You can make out Spain on the tang but nothing else.

Barrel. Underside looks like SB with a sword between them, all inside a sprocket.

the SB symbol looks like this

headstamp for the Manufacture of Weapons and Ammunition as they had factories all throughout Spain... military defense contractor

General Dynamics (USA) is the current owner of aforementioned company

pretty sure the SB mausers were decent quality actions/rifles with standard milling & machine work... nothing real fancy. Affordable to the middle class civilian

that's why the finish work looks kinda crude

the super nice Mauser actions with emphasis on QC were put out by FN , Rigby, and Husqvarna

                    hope that helps

in the late 50's & 60's.... gunsmiths used lots of Mauser actions for custom rifles.
PO Ackley in Utah was probably the most famous American gunsmith of his generation.

Thanks Blake that helps a ton. Ill go ahead and finish it. Would cleaning up the machine marks increase value at all?

leave it "as-is" .. adds character

if you do any modifications to action it could decrease value

                        what caliber ... 308 ?
