    Scope?

Thanks to the wife dragging me to Wal-Mart on Friday I picked up a Remington 700 in 30.06. It came with a scope on it but I figured since I got it for a good price I would shell out some money on a better one. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Good idea. Now how much do you want to spend?

I don't want to break the bank on it but I am willing to spend $500.

I would keep an eye out for a used Ziess Conquest. I recently picked up two 3.5X10's for $400 each. You can also find a good used Leupold for less than $500 as well.

Yep, and both have lifetime warranty so you can get them "fixed" if there turns out to be something wrong with them...

Or a nice Vortex Viper for around the same price from Arrowsmith.

Sorry bud, but A vortex viper isnt even in the same zip code as the conquest or a good leupold! Sightron sIII is the best value in top quality optics in my opinion. Sometimes find a used 3.5-10 in your price range.

Zeiss Conquests have been discontinued and are getting hard to find. I don't know what that means for support moving forward. I do know that the Terra series that replaced the Conquest doesn't seem to be of the same quality.

Leupold is always a solid performer and can be found on the used market in your price range. Add in the lifetime warranty, their custom shop modifications and their line of accessories, they are very hard to beat.

Leupold used, preferably a VX-III. Minox uses the same glass as Zeiss. I think their new line is around your price point.

                      I could've sworn opticsplanet had vx3 4.5-14x40 for $519 they're $599 now.

Don't forget about the Sample List at SWFA. Right now they've got a VX-III for $499 and will have them cheaper from time to time.

SWFA is an optics manufacturing specializing in rifle scopes built for tactical, hunting, and long range shooting known for quality and precision optics.
