I love my ruger m77 in .260. Given to me as a gift, and now I shoot it more than the rifles I bought for myself.

      I have let the other rifles go and now I have the .260 and a .300 WSM x-bolt and that's all I will ever need....although I still I reeeally want a .338

You will love the .260, very enjoyable gun all around.

        kikn,
She used 120 grain Nosler ballistic tip. Since I'm in process of building up a 6.5 Grendel and have started reloading I am going to experiment with 123 or 129 grain Hornady SST or AMAX as I can reload same bullet for both.

The .260 Rem is a great whitetail cartridge. If I didn't already have a 7mm-08 in Remington Model 7, I would get one in .260. Where the .260 really shines is in short light rifles. In standard size rifles with longer barrels the .25-06 will slightly out perform the 260 with bullets up to about 120 grains. The .260 Rem is ballisticly very similar to the 6.5 X 55 Swede which made its reputation with 140 grain bullets.

I love the load for deer and hogs. I had a 6mm and 7mm so this was the perfect average.
Never was a fan of the short barreled .260 model 7 I owned.
Rebarreled to 24 inch. Helped with balance and muzzle blast
            I liked the 140's. Deadly.

I'm with you on that. Me and short barrels parted company right after I bought my first chronograph.

Generally, I prefer longer barrels but I have a couple of shorter rifles I like to use when hunting heavy over.
