which pistol as a collectible shooter?

Looking to add to the safe for myself and the boys when they get older. NIB Model 29 Classic or Colt 1911 Government? Its Christmas present to me from the boys and Momma. Both are blued models with wood grips.....similar priced too

Depends? Is the S&W pinned & recessed? If not, the definitely the 1911; but that's just me...

If you want a true collectable, then get an 'older' nib S&W 29...like stated, pinned and recessed with no turnline on the cylinder. Even if you pay top dollar, your kids will have a gun that will increase 2-10 fold by the time they are your age.

Expect to pay a premium but these guns will continue to climb in value...if you want to shoot the gun, then disregard. Shooters are not full blown collectables.

Also look at the Colt Pythons / Daimondbacks / Anacondas / Cobras & other obsolete Colt DA pistols...1911's are good ones too, but really need to know what you are looking for. Again, the older the better.

Looking for something that will hold value, but fun to shoot. I wont own a firearm just to look at. I prefer toshoot everything I have at some time or another. Probably leaning towards the model 29 since I hunt with a 44mag mostly. Time to start pinging GB and doing research on the different models.

IMO u just can't hardly loose money with older smiths if you buy them right and don't abuse them.

Those old 29s, 27s etc have some beautiful bluing on them.

Beginning the search for 6" 29-2... Im going to have to get this one frm either a shop or private seller after I look it over. Saw some very deceptive photos on the net last night searching

Manurhin MR73. It's a french copy of the S&W. It's harder to find, but apparently it's rugged as hell and superior to s&w (8lb stock DA trigger, tighter lock up, etc).

Colt python and anaconda wouldnt be to shabby either..

Or you could go buy a fired Colt SAA just run light loads through it for plinking. Buy one in good condition and it will only go up in value.
