    Found my next gun

I think dad messed up bad. I'm going on a hunt in 2 weekends, bow hunt but bringing a bang stick in case I can't close the deal with a bow, not going home empty handed. I sold my hunting rifles to fund my divorce along with most of my other man toys. But luckily dad has plenty and we have a general understanding. Anyone can borrow anyones stuff as long as you ask, treat it with respect, and and keep it clean.

Called the old man and told him I needed one and after going over what was in the safe I settled on the 300 savage. Its a Remington Classic. Cool old round, the classics are always very nice rifles, Looks brand new, trigger feels like its been worked (doesn't surprise me at all, most of his rifles have trigger jobs) and good Nikon glass. Took it out to the range to make sure it was sighted in since it hadn't been fired in 5-6 years. After messing with the scope a little I shot a final group. Put 5 shots in .75" @ 100 yards off of a front rest only. No rear bag. I'm think I'm going to have to confiscate this one from the old man. His safe is about to overflow anyway.

Pretty sure he hasn't logged into his TBH account in a year or two so hopefully he won't see this

Yeah, I can see why after shooting this one. Dad has a few of them, the 300 Weatherby Mag, the 300 savage, and I think there is another one in the safe as well.

.300 Savage is an awesome round. Came out in the 99 Savage lever action (as did several other rounds). It's pretty much the same as a .308 with modern loading. Not sure of this, but think the .308 was derived from the .300. Savage came out with some ground breaking rounds, the .300 was one of them. The 250/3000 was another. To truly appreciate these cartridges, you need to look at when they were develeoped and the other cartridges available at the time.

I did look into it, cool history to go along with it. Developed for tube magazine fed lever actions. You can tell when you look at the case, but I wouldn't have guessed before reading it. Groundbreaking round for the time for sure. I read that lots of people have trouble resizing the round because of the shoulder, but asked dad and he said he hasn't had any issues. I'm looking forward to shooting it more, and getting some critters with it next weekend.
