I'm building off a trued 700 action right now. I think I'm going to be Into the gun 1700 no glass when I'm done.

And I got real lucky on my donor action

and be done with it. Add-ons such as stock, upgraded trigger, etc can be added later when you have more funds available. It has already been "accurized" it says so it should already shoot as good as what you are looking for. Readily available .308 ammo in lots of flavors.

For the type of rifle you describe you are going to be into it for $1,500 and up plus glass if you want something that will shoot better that the rifle in the link.

Well budget maybe 800 or so, but to be honest I don't need it just looking to build one for a project. As far as what to accomplish.. I want a accurate rifle for deer hunting but doesn't nessasarilly have to be a paper perfect gun.

$800 or song would just buy a 700 cdl in whatever caliber you wanted.

Like others have said if you want to do it yourself and want to do serious work aka new barrel and what not you need a lathe and a mill aka a gun smith. Other things like a stock change or something like that not as much unless you want a detachable mag.

I am into my second mauser 98 build right now, and you can't even build a mauser hinting rifle for that. I did about half of the work myself on my first one and I'm in it for about $650. But it sure was fun.

Listen to Cajun he is spot on, 700 action $400 ish, Pac Nor barrel $610 installed, HS stock up to $500, Timney trigger $125. You can bed it yourself with a little practice.

700 long action with magnum bolt face. 28" shillen varmint contour r5 barrel. Rifle basics set trigger. H-S precision stock with aluminum inlet and pillars installed. Badger ordinance bottom metal. Muzzle break by muscle break. Ferrell 20 moa base. All metal cerakoted in badlands grey. I'm sure I'm missing something. But hey its a good starting point. Lol

Do u still have to pillar bed a h-s precision stock? I have one on a 30-06 and didn't glass bed or anything because it shot good and didn't want to screw the stock up.

HS and other better quality stocks will usually have a full length aluminum bedding block in them. Many people like to skim bed though to prevent any movement at all.

If it shoots good...no worries. No reason to fix what is not broken. Especially if you may resale.

Like stated, I skim bed all my HS stocks & rarely does it not improve the accuracy.
