My boy shoots a .243. Been a good load for him. It was a great feeling to buy him his 1st deer rifle. It was an even better feeling when he took his 1st deer w/ it. Congrats and good luck.

Absolutely!!! The 58gr were just to break him into the deer rifle. I have 100rds of custom "Federal Premium" with Sierra GameKings 100gr on their way from a reloading friend of mine.

I bought my 1st 243 from Gibson's Discount in Brownsville Texas,in about 1963,played $109, and I've killed more animals with it ,using 46 gr of IMR 4350,behind a Sierra 100 gr bt,than I can count. Hunting the sandy country South of Laredo now,and wanting a good pass thru for trailing,I don't use it much these days.....May be I should go back to it....

Very nice! Find some good 90 gr. bullet's for him to shoot that bruiser with and post the pics! I"m sure we all remember our first deer and our kids. I know I get way more pleasure out of hunting with my son then by myself. Savage sure has come a long way , from what I have seen lately, the accuracy you are getting is pretty much their norm now. My guess is you'll be roughly 1.5 inches low when you start shooting 90 gr bullets at 100 yards.
